The vast state of San Luis Potosí extends over the semi desert plains of central north of México. This state covers diverse ecosystems, therefore is divided into three main areas: the central region, which has a wooded climate and springs where diving is available, the Altiplano or desert area, which offers the Magic Town of Real de Catorce as its main attraction, and the Huasteca Potosina with its dense jungle region with waterfalls and incomparable scenery. Much of the Pre-hispanic and colonial heritage can still be seen in the villages of this region.
The Potosi capital combines its mining past with the magical touch of colonial times. In 2010, its historic center was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a commercial route of great importance in the history of México. San Luis Potosí is one of the most picturesque cities in the country. Its harmonious center boasts uneven terraces, beautiful squares, parks full of flowers and an effervescent cultural life.
